Artist Graffitis Trees Blue to Raise Awareness About Deforestation

The idea of painting trees a very unnatural color in order to raise awareness about nature itself seems, well...absurd. But Australia-based artist Konstantin Dimopoulos is doing just that.
Konstantin has this to say of his creation:
In nature color is used both as a defensive mechanism, a means of protection, and as a mechanism to attract. The Blue Trees attempts to waken a similar response from viewers. Trees are largely invisible in our daily lives, and it’s not until it’s too late that we realize how important they are to us both aesthetically and environmentally.
His work can be found in Vancouver, Seattle, and New Zealand.

Blue trees in the fall are my favorite. This particular installation takes place in Vancouver Biennale, Canada.
"Colour is a powerful stimulant, a means of altering perception and defining space and time. The fact that blue is a colour that is not naturally identified with trees suggests to the viewer that something unusual, something out of the ordinary has happened. It becomes a magical transformation," notes Konstantin.

Blue Trees Being Installed in Seattle

A crew of volunteers helps install and paint the blue trees in Seattle. (actually--these are on the south side of 522/Bothell Way in Kenmore. And they look REALLY cool!!!)

Using buckets of environmentally safe blue coloring, Dimopoulos and volunteers turn everyday trees into pop art. (these ones are in Westlake)
The dye used on the trees is biologically safe pigmented water which will naturally degrade and the trees gradually revert to their natural state.
