Plant for Pearl Jam!!!!

Just in case you missed the email last week :)

Pearl Jam is working with a company called Forterra to mitigate 7,000 metric tons of carbon emitted during their 2009 World Tour. There have been 3 clean-ups/restoration projects scheduled and there is one coming up in Redmond on Saturday, 2/25 from 10am-2pm. The area has been previously cleared of invasive species and we will be putting native plants and trees back in the ground. Here are the details from Forterra:

  • ·         No experience necessary!
  • ·         They’ll provide the gloves, tools and other materials, as well as water and snacks!
  • ·         Please bring your own water bottle to re-fill and/or a mug for coffee.
  • ·         Wear sturdy shoes, long pants and a long sleeve shirt.
  • ·         Ages 7 and up may attend with a parent, otherwise you need to be at least 18 to attend on your own.

Space is limited with this opportunity….there are only 20 spots available! LET’S FILL THEM UP! Please use the voting buttons at the top to let us know you're in!

We’re going to register our team by Friday, 2/3, so please get back to us sooner rather than later.

BRING IT!

Are You Racing For the Cure?

We had a great response to participate in the Susan G Komen "Race for the Cure" on June 7th. An amazing 23 of you signed up and I know some more of you are bringing friends and family as well. If finding a cure for breast cancer isn't enough of a cause to fight for, the foundation is also putting forth efforts to make themselves more green as well. Hence the green swirls that appeared in all of our shirts!

pinklovesgreen_08

Our mission to end breast cancer forever is global.
We are hoping our impact on the environment is not.

Recycle
Komen Puget Sound in partnership with Waggener Edstrom placed new recycling stations on Race day.  Thank you for helping us keep the amount of plastic, paper and food garbage to a minimum on Race day by visiting the recycling stations!

If you would like to sign up your friends and family click here. You can have them join the "Playnetwork" group if you'd like, but it is not required. AND if you'd like to further donate funds please click here

Philanthropic Party was GREAT!!!

A portion of our team went out on Saturday to help out at Camp Long. Upon arriving we were given work boots, gloves and a sign in sheet. From Play there were 6 of us and we were joined by a Boy Scout troop from Bellevue.

photo op!

Before we got started, Christine, one of the Naturalists at Camp Long gave us a little background and history of the site itself.....

...and then it was time to work....

Starting with transferring some dirt from the piles it was in, into a ditch...and then the fun stuff started!

....the fun stuff? Digging out blackberry bushes....the ground was actually pretty perfect for this type of activity. Due to all the rain we've had recently the soil was pretty wet and made it easier to rip those suckers out!

although easier, still tough work....

Good Job Kris!!

Michelle more then conquered her share of blackberry bushes!

After we made quick work of what was a blackberry field, we moved on to getting some trees planted. A local youth organization donated $1000 of plants to Camp Long and they needed to get into the ground.

This is Jason, he was our "tour guide" for the day!

Check out that team work!!!

Kris and Mitch working with Stuart, another Naturalist at Camp Long.

"Gotta throw some more dirt in there, needs to be this high!"

PERFECT!

My boyfriend (Rob) and I getting kudos for getting this cutie tree in the ground. And then we got handed a rake to uncover the moss we covered up. Moss is critical in the forest for wildflowers to grow!

Getting the last one in the ground....

THANKS JASON!!!
